On 8 March 2021, an explosive interview with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stunned viewers across the globe.

Broadcast by CBS in the US and ITV in the UK, the interview left millions wondering what’s next for the former Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

One answer to that question is Archewell.

What is Archewell?

Founded by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, this multi-faceted organization embodies Archewell Foundation, Archewell Audio, and Archewell Productions.

At the heart of the organization sits the Archewell Foundation — an impact-driven non-profit.

The Archewell Foundation is currently in partnership with the following charities:

The Loveland Foundation

UCLA Center for Critical Internet Inquiry/C2I2

World Central Kitchen

Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education, Stanford Medicine

Center for Humane Technology

After describing her own traumatic experience with the media and winning a privacy breach battle with the Daily Mail, it is unsurprising that Meghan supports a charity dedicated to “safer, more compassionate online communities” [Center for Humane Technology].

Archewell Audio

Announced on 15 December 2020, Archewell Audio is an audio-first production company.

Through its partnership with Spotify, the Duke and Duchess will try their hand at producing and hosting uplifting podcasts to the streaming service’s 345 million monthly active users.

The couple aims to use their fame to spotlight diverse perspectives and “build community through shared experiences, powerful narratives, and universal values.”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex said in a joint statement: “What we love about podcasting is that it reminds all of us to take a moment and to really listen, to connect to one another without distraction.”

Archewell Production’s self-professed purpose is “to produce programming that informs, elevates, and inspires.”

In September 2020, news broke of a contract signed between the royals and Netflix — the world’s leading entertainment streaming service with over 203 million paid subscribers worldwide.

Whilst we are yet to witness this creative partnership in action, hinted projects include an animated series about inspiring women, which will be aimed at a young audience, and an innovative wildlife documentary series set in Africa.
